Birth Photography in Kingston upon Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire

Birth is powerful, emotional, unpredictable and beautifully raw. It’s a story that deserves to be remembered in its entirety, not just the first posed photo afterwards.

I offer calm, respectful birth photography across Hull and the East Riding, documenting your labour, birth and those precious first hours with quiet confidence and care.

Why Book a Birth Photographer?

Birth moves quickly in some moments and slowly in others — and when you’re in it, you’re in it. Many parents tell me they remember parts in fragments. Having your story professionally documented means:

You see moments you missed.

Your birth partner is in the frame too.

The strength you showed is captured forever.

The first look, first touch, first breath is preserved beautifully.

Your child will one day see how they were welcomed into the world.

This isn’t about graphic imagery. It’s about connection, power, emotion and atmosphere. Every gallery is handled sensitively and tailored to your comfort levels.

My Approach

I am calm, grounded and completely unphased by birth. I’m not queasy. I understand birth physiology and I respect the space you’re in.

I blend into the room quietly, working with available light wherever possible, never interfering with your care or your experience. My role is to observe and document, not to direct.

Whether you're planning a home birth or hospital birth in Hull or the East Riding, I approach every story with the same steady presence.

Your Responsibility – Hospital Births

If you are planning a hospital or birth centre birth (rather than a home birth), it is your responsibility to check with your midwife or chosen hospital that photography is permitted during labour and birth.

Most local teams are very supportive, but policies can vary depending on staffing and circumstances. I’m always respectful of medical professionals and will step back immediately if requested.

FAQ

Will you photograph everything?

Only what you are comfortable with. We discuss boundaries beforehand. Some families want full documentation, others prefer modest angles and connection-focused images.

What if I need a caesarean?

If the hospital permits, I can attend theatre. If not, I will capture before and after moments.

Is it awkward having someone there?

Most clients say after 10 minutes they forget I’m even there. I work quietly and respectfully.

Why does birth photography cost so much?

Birth photography is very different from a standard photo session. When you book me, you’re not booking an hour, you’re booking 24/7 on-call support around your due date. From 38–42 weeks, I’m ready to come whenever labour starts, whether that’s 2pm or 2am.

Birth is unpredictable and can last many hours, so coverage is unlimited. I stay throughout active labour and those first beautiful moments afterwards; the first cry, first cuddle, first time you hold your baby.

It’s also a day just as important, if not more important, than a wedding day. There are no re-dos, no recreating it later. Your £995 investment reflects the time, flexibility, experience, and care that goes into documenting one of the most life-changing days of your life.

What if my labour is very long?

I stay. However long it takes.

What if you miss it?

I remain on call and ready from 38 weeks. In the rare case of an extremely fast birth, I attend as soon as possible and document the immediate postpartum moments.

When will we receive our images?

You’ll receive a preview shortly after birth, with your full gallery delivered within the agreed timeframe.
